'Treasures From Bible Times'
Author : Alan Millard
Publisher : Lion Publishing, 1991 [Paperback Edition, square bound]
A peasant farmer uncovers a buried city. A shepherd casually aims a stone at a hole in a cliff, and the Dead Sea Scrolls are found. Behind a sealed doorway lies the treasure of King Tutankhamen.
Stories like these take hold of the mind and imagination. They build a sense of excitement and mystery which gives archaeology its endless fascination. When digs take place in the lands of the Bible, there is an added dimension. Willthe next find 'prove' or 'disprove' what the Bible says? The treasures in this book are as varied as the stories which surround their discovery : not only gold and silver, but written documents providing a key to unlock forgotten languages and open up unknown civilisations. Temple towers, tomb pictures, palace ivories, letters and carvings, throw into high relief the world in which the Bible was written, shedding fresh light on its unique message.
