THE THIRTEENTH FLOOR

If The Matrix took you to another world, let The Thirteenth Floor take you to another universe … or two.

A sci-fi thriller where parallel times collide, on the thirteenth floor no one is who they seem … or are they?

Question reality?

ADVERTISING ARTWORK - SEND GREETINGS BY TELEGRAM

The above artwork was used for an advertisement promoting the use of Telegrams in 1939. The advertisement appeared in the Australian magazine Woman's World, dated 1 January 1939.

...................

Life’s happy days … weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, sporting achievements, new arrivals … all happy days … are so much brighter when greetings come from friends and loved ones. Less than a penny a word within the State and only a penny a word to addresses on other parts of the Commonwealth is all it costs to have your greetings telegram delivered on a gaily designed and coloured form, enclosed in an envelope to match.

Every subscriber’s telephone is a telegraph office. Just ask for “Telegrams”, or lodge your message at the nearest post office. Greetings telegrams are so easy and cheap to send, yet they mean so much to the recipient.

CARTOON BY ALEX GRAHAM

Most people are familiar with the comic strip Fred Basset, about a male basset hound. The cartoon was created by Scottish cartoonist Alex Graham. As a kid I really enjoyed reading the adventures of Fred Bassett in the local newspaper The Sun. The strip was published first in the Daily Mail on 8 July 1963, and it is still being syndicated around the world. Sadly Alex Graham is no longer with us, he died in 1991. Here is an early cartoon he produced advertising HP Sauce, published in the newspaper The Daily Mail in England in 1947, well before he created the strip Fred Bassett.

ROGUES OF SHERWOOD FOREST

I have always enjoyed the exploits of Robin Hood in whatever medium that he is portrayed in, such as films, comics, book, tv shows etc. It was interesting to note with this advertisement that there was the 'son' of Robin Hood. Well, I thought, "Why Not?!"

Stated on Wikipedia :

Rogues of Sherwood Forest is a 1950 Technicolor Columbia Pictures film directed by Gordon Douglas and featuring John Derek as Robin the Earl of Huntingdon, the son of Robin Hood, Diana Lynn as Lady Marianne, and Alan Hale, Sr. in his third movie as Little John over a 28-year span; he'd played the part opposite Douglas Fairbanks in 1922 and Errol Flynn in 1938, one of the longest period over which any film actor played the same major role (Sylvester Stallone played Rocky Balboa over an even longer span, between 1976 and 2006.) It was also Hale's final film. The film was written by Ralph Gilbert Bettison and George Bruce.
